Today, Nissan is one of the world's top 10 automakers, competing with Honda for second place (with Toyota as the undisputed leader) among Japanese car makers with varying degrees of success. The corporation has 43 car plants, built in Japan, USA, Russia, European countries, Asia, Africa, Latin America (totally 20 countries). It has 11 scientific departments, 7 design studios. Nissan offices operate in more than 160 countries around the world. The global system of the giant employs more than 180 thousand people. The history of the company Nissan goes back to 1914, when the firm Kwaishinsha has been designed one of the first Japanese cars - a two-cylinder 'DAT'. Since the mid-20's the Japanese market began to be developed by American manufacturers. In 1926, the company merged with the Jitsuyo Jidosha Co., Ltd. The new company was named DAT Jidosha Seizo.
Nissan's homeland, Yokohama, becomes the site of the firm's first plant, where Datsun models are produced. Presses are installed at the plant, replacing manual labor in the preparation of metal sheets. Productivity and quality of production grow noticeably and in 1937 ten thousandth car leaves the factory. During the war years, the plant fulfilled the military orders of the Japanese government: producing for the army trucks, engines for airplanes.
Only in 1947, the plant, which survived the bombings, was able to produce passenger cars again. These were the Datsun models, which were produced in various modifications until 1983.
In the 50's, characterized by the appearance and introduction of new technologies in automobile industry, the history of Nissan has begun a new stage. The first car of the family of all-wheel drive Patrol SUVs, which has become legendary in the Nissan lineup, is produced. The model, which has gone through a large number of modifications, is produced to this day. The manufacturer has constantly improved the car's off-road capability, its power and comfort in the cabin. The 2018 Patrol is already equipped with a 405 hp engine, has huge ground clearance (275 mm) and all the comfort for the driver and passengers.
The attention that Nissan engineers have always paid to the economy and safety of their cars was rewarded in the 70s, when the energy crisis hurt consumers' wallets and the financial situation of automakers. The Nissan Sunny was recognized in the U.S. as a leader in its environmental friendliness and gasoline consumption, and sales were successfully accompanied by the advertising slogan 'Datsun saves'. The car's popularity was staggering, which had a positive effect on the history of the Nissan brand. In the mid-1970s, the corporation became the world leader in the number of cars sold, and in 1977 it sold 20 millionth car made by the corporation.
In the next decade, the company continues to expand in the most important foreign markets: plants are opened in Australia and Europe. In North America, a large plant for 8,8 thousand jobs is built in Tennessee. Do not forget to use Nissan VIN decoder in order to avoid potential problems when buying a used car.
